Peace, Security and Stability
The Netherlands and the United States share a special military, economic and cultural alliance that is building a more stable, safe world. Our alliance dates more than 200 years to the United States’ founding, when the Netherlands recognized the United States in 1782.
Since then, we have worked closely together and through multilateral organizations to advance peace and security around the world, fighting side by side in numerous wars and serving together in peacekeeping missions in the world’s most challenging regions.
On a daily basis, the Netherlands’ “three D approach” of defense, development and diplomacy is helping to stop terrorism and other security threats; ensure the rule of law by preventing and combating drug trafficking, human trafficking and piracy; and advance freedom and human rights around the world.
